just a little nonsense

So neither Jen or I have blogged in forever and i don't even know where either of us left off. So i am just going to spend the next little while just chatting..
So im still working at Nordstom Rack but right now we are getting super crappy hours and it really stinks. So i have been looking to further my career with the company.. Which means looking for new positions. And thats exactly what i have been doing. I have applied to a couple different locations and for a couple different positions. Honestly I'm not quite sure what i want to do. I know i don't want to be in sales. I would really like to be working behind the scenes in the office. But i know i will have to go through the sales floor first. I just don't know if i am ready for that... Im currently waiting to hear about an interview at the Lakewood location. I really hope i get it but i am super nervous. I really want the position. But if i don't i will look for other opportunities. :)

Well school is out (THANK GOODNESS). I am so excited. It was really long semester. And i cant express how happy i am for it to be over. It was long and stressful and  yeah.. But even though it is over summer school starts next week. But the good part is my schedule is more open so i don't have to close on every one of my work shifts :) That means i can actually have some nights free and go to night institute classes and hang out with more friends.. And next semester i only have morning classes... so on my days off i can actually have a day off! Man i love it.

I can't believe i am about to start my senior year of college. I honestly never thought i would make it this far. I always wanted it but to think i have made it this far is amazing! Such a feeling of accomplishment.. But i am not quite there at. So this time next year i know i will be writing a super awesome blog post about graduation and getting out of this puny town! I cant wait!

So in know this is all rambles but i am ok with that! So until next time! Adios!

I got to see some of my family this last weekend and my Aunt sat me down and said i needed to come around more because they missed me. And hearing that from my aunt made me realize that i really need to make some more time for them and make more of a conscious effort to see them. I love my family so much and they mean the world to me...

Customer Conversations

Since Stephanie and I both work at Nordstrom Rack we hear our fair share of interesting customer comments. Here are some of the funnier ones. Not all of these responses were said to the customers but they were definitely thought.

Customer standing in the Plus Section
Customer: “Do you guys have any Plus?”

Me: “We sure do. Just look to your right and your left”

Customer: “Is this the actual price of the item or is the price something different?”

Me: “No we just put that price on there to confuse you.”

Customer: “This item has no tag.”

Tag is on item 9 times out of ten and the customer just can't find it.

“Do you guys have any clearance?”

“Of course not, the Nordstrom RACK sells zero clearance. All those red signs that say CLEARANCE all around the store are lying to you."

Customer: “Do you guys only sell one shoe?”

Me: "Yup. We’re the right shoe only sellers.”

At our store we only put the right shoe on the floor and customers have to go to a shoe mate window to get the matching shoe. Helps with theft.

Customer: “I need an outfit to match my Timberlands.”

Me: "Would you like to be more specific and tell me what your shoes look like?"

After being scheduled to work in the fitting room/dungeon for 8 hours:
50 year old lady comes out wearing a mini skirt, too tight shirt, and Uggs

Customer: “Oh my gosh, what do you think?”

Me: “You look amazing! Ready for the Academy Awards!”

Lady comes out in a dress three sizes too small

Customer: “This dress is perfect!”
Me: “Not many people could pull that off but you definitely could!”

Customer: “Oh my gosh, why don’t you guys have this item?? Metro Point and Lakewood have these.”

Me: “Does it look like you’re at Metro Point or Lakewood?”

Customer: “Do you guys have any jeans?”

Me: “No we don’t sell jeans at a CLOTHING STORE. And those ten racks of jeans you passed on the way to get to me were just illusions.”

Customer:“Where are your fat people clothes??”
Trying super hard not to laugh.Me: “You mean Plus size??”

Along the same lines:

Customer: “I need a shirt but I’m fat so I need like a… fat girl shirt?”

Stephanie: “We do mobile checkout so I can check you out whenever you’re ready!”

Don't get me wrong, most of the customers that come in are very friendly and nice. But some of them are a piece of work. Gotta love Long Beach.

Sunday... Sugarday

So i started this whole only sugar on Sundays.. So far so good.. And today is sunday! So sugar it is... And this was mine and Jens conversation tonight.

She's Alive!

No need to fear, all! I have come back from my blog slumber! Lots has happened since the last time I posted on here.  So here's what's new the other Roomie in LB.
Soooo... last time you all heard from me was right before finals of last semester. Oh finals. Wicked.... wicked finals. I busted my tushie to the extreme at the end of last semester and it paid off!

I seriously don't know how I pulled that one off. This was definitely the hardest semester to date. I took one of the hardest history classes offered at my school, started my prerequisite classes for physical therapy, and was working 30 hour weeks. It was a grueling semester full of all nighters and stressing out about 8 page papers. But I am SO proud of myself! Seriously one of my greatest accomplishments in my college career.

Shortly after the semester I dove right into holiday season in retail. Man! It was intense. However, I actually had a lot of fun during holiday. My store is generally on the slower side so it was fun to actually have some life in the store lol. I helped many a procrastinating husband find their wife the perfect Christmas present. Have I mentioned I still love my job? I get to pretty much shop all day long. I recently had a performance review with my manager and she told me a good way to better learn the products would be to try them on. Seriously? You want me to play dress up at work? If you insist! :)

Christmas was on the quiet side for me this year. My siblings didn't come down so it was just me and the parentals. They tried extra hard to make sure I still had a fun Christmas. And I did! It was nice to get a day off from work and spend it with my parents. The day after Christmas, I worked a nice 8 hour shift that started at 7 in the morning. After I got off, my parents at I rushed off to Idaho to spend a week with my sister and her family, my brother, and his wife. It was a fun trip! On this trip I learned how much of a California girl I really am. One night after coming home from the movies, temperatures dipped to about 8 degrees Fahrenheit. Holy  moly it was cold! I don't think I can handle those kind of temperatures for long periods of time! I did have a lot of fun hanging out with my family though. On this trip I was also reminded of how my family really are my favorite people in the world!

After about 5 days in Idaho, we said goodbye to the Browns and my parents, myself, Lawrence, and his wife Chelsey headed back down to Salt Lake for New Years Eve. Once again, this California girl got a little taste of what the rest of the world is like during the winter months. We spent most of our New Years Eve walking around Temple Square. It was FREEZING! Pretty sure it was around 12 degrees that night. We also stopped by the beautiful new City Creek shopping center across the street from Temple Square. Obviously, I had to check out Nordstrom. So pretty! After freezing our behinds off, we went to the Joseph Smith Building to check out the Joseph Smith movie and ended up eating dinner at a fun restaurant at the top of the building! No worries, we got our spiritual on after our delicious meal and caught the last showing of the movie. Seriously so good. Definitely cried at the end.

The next morning we flew back to California. As soon as I got off the plane I pulled out my shades and basked in the beautiful California sunshine. All kidding aside, I had a really fun trip to Idaho. It was so fun hanging out with my siblings. We sure missed Julieta though. I love my family! I wish we were all living close to each other so we could hang out all the time!

The rest of my Christmas break consisted of pretty much just working and dreading starting school again. My break went by way too fast. As soon as I knew it, I was waking up early to make it to an 8am class :( This semester I am taking General Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Roman History, and History of Modern European Women (yeah that last class is a total joke). 4 weeks in, it's already proving to be a hard semester. But hey, I wouldn't do it any other way, right?

The last update is probably the most exciting one. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a hair virgin. I've never dyed my hair and never really had plans to. However, lately I was getting super bored with my hair. It wasn't really a color. One of my coworkers came into work the other day with a fun new hair color and I thought, "that's it! I'm dying my hair!" That night, Stephanie and I picked up some hair dye and three hours later.....

Tada!!! It actually looks a lot blonder in this picture than it actually was. It took me a little while to get used to it but I really do love it now! It's just a fun change for a girl who didn't know what her hair color was before. It's starting to fade a little but I'm still loving the way it looks. Amazing how a little box of bleach can boost your confidence! It was really fun going into work the next day and having everyone not recognize me. It's Jennifer 2.0!

Well, if your still reading, thanks for staying tuned in for this long! Sorry for the ridiculously long post. Next time I will try to actually post about these things when they happen. Life is still good for this roomie in LB. I'm very grateful for all the opportunities I've been presented in life thus far. I love the school I go to, I love the church I belong to, and I love the friends I surround myself with. Steph and I are still the best of buds and I'm glad to have her as my roomie. I don't know if many other people could put up with me! ;) That's all for now! I'll leave you with a picture of me and my Valentine.

Just a lot of NEW

Ok so we haven't blogged in forever. So get prepared for some awesomeness that is about to come!!

Well i believe the last thing i blogged about was getting a new job.. And i have to say i was offered a permanent position at the Nordstrom Rack like a week after starting there. And i ABSOLUTELY love it!! Some days are really slow and its boring, so we have to get a little creative with out time. But the job and people are beyond awesome.
And some of you may be wondering, how is Jen and Stephanie's friendship now that they live together, work together, go to church together, and go to the same school. And i think Jen would agree with me when i say it is a little much but we don't hate each other by any means. We have one super awesome friendship. I think it has turned more into thinking of her as my sister then just by best friend. I have to say hearing some of the horror stories of living with your friend scared us a little but we have tried super hard to not have anything happen to our friendship and to not hate each other and so far i think we have totally succeeded. I don't hate her.. She doesn't hate it. Its basically a win win situation.

Wanna know a fun fact.. It has been 3 years since we got into our car accident.. So basically we have been official bffs for 3 years now

But i am not going to lie i love my job and working with Jennifer but i am looking to transfer to a different position within the company. You all know i love law enforcement and i have gotten a pretty good eye with looking for shoplifters and ticket switchers that i want to have my work be more focused on that rather than dressing mannequins with the newest styles.. I think i would be a much better fit for working with shoplifters that being a person stylist of sorts. Haha


Well a couple months ago i started watching a friends dog for a weekend and here and there throughout a week. And well Jennifer fell in love with the idea of having a dog. So we thought we should get a dog why the heck not.. You're only young once right?? Haha
So about 3 to 4 weeks ago a customer walked into the store with a 6 week old Yorkie Poodle she was looking to get rid of. And i wanted her so bad. I called Jennifer to tell her about the dog but she didn't answer and in the time of me calling Jennifer my co worker swooped up the dog and took her home :( i was so sad.. Then about  a week later that same co worker said that her landlord found out she had a dog and wasn't ok with that..
I bet you can all guess where i am going with this one. Jennifer and i got a dog!!! Her name is Lola and we absolutely love her!

Isn't that dog just so dang precious! Well we had Lola for about a week.. Then she got really really sick. We rushed to her to store to get some medicine but because she was so young they wouldn't sell us anything. We took her to doggie hospital and they wanted to charge us an arm and leg to help her. So we called about amazing friend Lindsay (her dad is a vet) and her dad was amazing and let us bring her straight to him.. Mind you Lindsay lives like an hour and half away from we were. But long story short. Lindsays dad saved the day. And currently Lola is living the life. She is staying with my parents during the semester and we get to go see her whenever we want. It really is the best situation. Haha

I know what you guys are thinking.. Yes i was one of those people who took pictures what everything the dog did.. LOL And one last picture everyone is going to love this one!!

She was being super quiet so i went out to see what she was doing.. And this is where i found her. <3 she is far to precious. 

Ok well on another note.. I took a winter session class. It was 15 days of pure torture.. I took a research statistics class. And i hated every minute of it. I was at school full time and i worked full-time.. And guess what!!!!! I got an A!!! I am so freaking happy.. Because you know everyone fails that class and has to take it again or just barely pass it.. And i got a freaking A. I was so happy :) what am i talking about i am still so happy about it. Haha

Well school has started now. I am taking Comm 300 which is a Rhetoric class, Comm 335 Persuasive Speaking, Theater 120 intro to acting (i am going to die in this class ugh it will be an easy A but i don't want to take it!) , and CRJU 303 Corrections. So far i like my classes except for that one theatre class. That class can die. lol Oh and on top of school i will be working a minimum of 30 hours week. But i have to say i am totally ok with that.. I have 3 semesters left until i graduate and i couldn't be more excited..

I predict this is going to be a semester of a lot of firsts and i am ok with that. I am so open to new things and so ready to tackle everything.

Just a little boredom

I'm sitting here super bored watching Grey's Anatomy like always and i decided to should blog.
I'm not quite sure what i am going to write about so here it goes..

A couple weeks ago i decided that i need a change and i needed to "broaden my horizons" (haha i always wanted to say that). Truth be told i wanted to do something different, i wanted to work in a place that challenged me everyday, somewhere that was changing, a place that i might need to adapt to my surroundings, but mainly i wanted a place and possibility of advancement. I spoke with my boss (for the nanny job) and told her i was thinking about quitting and looking for something different. We worked things out and i am staying with them until about Christmas then i am saying my good byes. After deciding this i went out on the hunt looking for a new job...

Easier said than done..

Well i found out a spot was open at Nordsrtom Rack (where Jen works) but the position that was open was in the shoes department. And Jen works in the Womens department.  So i applied... And guess what!! I got an interview and it went really well and i was called back for a second interview and then the waiting began... After a couple days i got a phone call.. I thought it was going to be THE phone call but i was wrong. I got a call from the manager in the Womens department wanting to know what my schedule looked like and if i would like to work in the Womens department. Of course i said yeah but i let her know that my roommate already worked for her. She said she knew that and would still like to consider me for the position. And then i waited some more.. A day later i get another call. It was the women's manager again and she said the position in shoes had been filled :( but she said she would like to hire me for the women's department and you know what i said...

Well i said YES. I am now the newest member of the Nordstrom Rack team! :)

I'm basically excited i officially started last wednesday with orientation and i will start working on the floor this up coming Tuesday! All of you wonderful people should come a visit! :)

That's what's new in my work world! And with school.. Well the semester is over and i did not finish as well as i would have liked but i passed all of my classes and did the best i could so that is all that counts. But winter session starts in a couple weeks so i am going to try and party as much as i can before it is back to the grind of school and work.

On an awesome note, the roomies in LB got FISHIES!!!!! I am so freaking excited!! :) There are three fish named Big Belly Lucielle, Samson, and Tim. And an awesome water frog named Willy Wonka!
These fish are amazing! And i think are going to fit right into our little family.. Haha
